THREE CRITICAL BUILDING BLOCKS FOR ANY INTRAPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM (+ QUICK SCAN)
Building intrapreneurship program
Of course, every intrapreneurship program must be adapted to the culture and processes of your organization. But across the board, these are the critical ingredients for a designing intrapreneurship program for delivering results.
We see Intrapreneurship Programs being launched in different areas of the organization and for different purposes but the common theme is often to bridge innovation with talent development. Is your CEO super focussed on digitalisation or increasing service revenue streams within a certain product category? How is Talent Development tapping into the potential of passionate millennials? May be you’ve developed a grass roots Intrapreneurship following? Is your core Innovation Team trying to scale their abilities across the organization?
These questions help you identifying the right sponsor, who can back two pilot teams to help you explore and learn from the first implementation.
Strategic Goals for Ideation
Entrepreneurs are always trying to be 10 times better than the next best solution. We therefore encourage our participants to work on „bigger“ „bolder“ and „better“ ideas that have lots of „unknowns“ rather than looking for small incremental improvements to something that already exists. We encourage exploring new revenue streams and new business models that align with the organization’s strategic goals.
If you can pre-identify internal sponsors and business units that would support the strategic development of the idea, then you are on a good path. Also, never under-estimate the value of participants being truly passionate about the idea – this will drive their commitment throughout the program.
We believe that for the majority, entrepreneurs are ‘made’ and not ‘born’. Entrepreneurs become better and better with experience and practice. However, there needs to be a fundamental base to build from and it has been proven that successful entrepreneurs also share ‘common personality traits’. You can dramatically increase your success rate with launching new ventures if you recruit those who have ‘Intrapreneur DNA’.
It helps as well to test upfront their innovation maturity. What do the participants already understandabout threats to your business and entrepreneurship methods? Do they require some fundamental training before joining your program?
