teams learn how to develop their ideas into a viable venture
ready for incubation or launch

Each week, teams put customers at the centre of their learning
in order to build the Customer Value Stream

Week 1: CUSTOMER

Focus

How should we approach Customer Development? What is Design Thinking? How do we demonstrate empathy? How can we segment our customer and identify early adopters? How shall we find them and can we learn from 'extreme users'?

Week 2: PROBLEM

Focus

How do we approach 'problem interviews' with customers? How do you interpret interview data? What are their pains, gains and jobs to be done? How can you build an End User Profile?

Week 3: SOLUTION

Focus

Are we confident we are solving a critical problem for the right customer segment? Do we know the total addressable market? What existing solutions are in use and who are the competitors?

Week 4: HOPEFUL

Focus

How can we solve the problem and what form does it need to take? What is Pretotyping vs. Prototyping? How can we use 'utility' testing to learn what features our solution requires to get customers 'hopeful'. What is the minimum feature set and how should we prioritise?

Week 5: SATISFIED

Focus

Are we able to solve the customers problem well enough? What are the key metrics to determine if the 'jobs to be done' has been achieved? Can you prioritise the features and develop a product plan? Can you increase the fidelity of the pretotype experiment to gain better customer insights?

Week 6: PASSIONATE

Focus

What makes customers passionate? How can passionate customers fuel your growth strategy? How might you encourage referrals? What activity must you do in order to get your customer passionate about your solution?

Week 7: INTRIGUED

Focus

How can we create a powerful message? How can we incorporate our value proposition into a messaging framework? Which channels are good to use? How can we test our message in 1 or 2 channels?

Week 8: TRUSTING

Focus

How can you establish trust? How can you demonstrate proof? What level of credibility do you need? Do you need to build a relationship over time? What can be automated? Can you outline the buying process?

Week 9: CONVINCED

Focus

Are customers really willing to pay? How much will they pay? How do we convince them to buy? How much will it cost to sell? What revenue model could make sense?

Week 10: AWARE

Focus

What is the best channel to bring your solution to market? What conversion rates does that channel provide? How will you maintain this channel and how does it impact the customer relationship?

Week 11: BUSINESS MODEL

Focus

Are you confident in the front-end of your business model? What gaps do you need to test for the back-end? Does your revenue model still make sense? How do you pitch your business to an investor?

Week 12: PITCH

Focus

Can you tell your story about how your idea evolved? What were the biggest surprises and challenges? What was the biggest insight that proved most valuable? Can you present your business convincingly and with confidence? What is your 'ask' and next steps?
